“Did you make this with a mold?” she asked in awe on Christmas morning. I kind of chuckled because I knew how simple it had been to make. Well sort of.
I have this tendency to make a lot of things all on the same day. Instead of doing a couple each day, I find myself in the kitchen making a plethora of items all at once. Sometimes, that leads to problems. Lets take this bread into consideration. I started with a wheat dough and was excited about creating a filling from cream cheese and mandarin orange marmalade. The filling seemed too runny so I added nuts, coated with flour. And an egg. Yeah, not sure what I was thinking except that it could be sort of “cheesecakey” on the inside. But, low and behold, when I tried to roll the bread up, it was mammoth and there was no way that I was going to get it into a circle and even less of a chance of making cuts all the way around. So I left it as a loaf and began again.
The second time around I used all white flour, just to be on the safe side. I decided to use the rest of the chocolate manjar blanco I had made. I rolled out the dough, spread the manjar blanco over it, rolled it and cut it. As you can see, I probably should have made deeper cuts and maybe not allowed it to rise so much. Again, I am always distracted on these baking marathon days.
Nevertheless, I am so glad I was able to bake along with the Bread Baking Babes for now I know the secret of the gorgeous Yule Wreath. I hope to make more. You know, for practice.
Happy New Year!

Yule Wreath is being served up as the Bread Baking Buddies challenge of the month. This months challenge was hosted by Lynn of Cookie Baker Lynn, December’s kitchen of the month.

Your wreath looks wonderful, Gretchen! I love the cheesecakey concept, but it seems like that would have splurged all over after it was cut. The chocolate manjar blanco filling looks just perfect. Good job, Baking Buddy!
