TWD: La Palette’s Strawberry Tart

Seems my kitchen has been producing cake after cake, so this week’s recipe for Tuesday was a nice change. Simple sweet shortbread crust spread with jam and topped with fresh fruit. What could be simpler?

The crust for this came together easily. I added a bit more egg yolk than called for because it seemed to be a bowl full of powder. I chose to make small tarts so that I could enjoy them in small portions and not feel obliged to eat the entire tart all at once! The strawberries were mixed with a bit of sugar and a splash of Peruvian Pisco. I chose not to include the black pepper, nor the fresh herbs or zest. I probably would have enjoyed all three, but I was worried that others would turn their nose up and I would eat it all the tarts, all alone. Although Dorie makes a few suggestions for additional toppings, I decided to follow the Latin tradition and drizzled sweetened condensed milk over the strawberries.

This was a wonderful after-dinner treat! The thing I love most is that it is a simple, throw everything together and eat-it-right-away kind of dessert.

Would you like to make your own La Palette Strawberry Tart? You can find the original recipe on page 374 in Baking: From My Home to Yours and on Serious Eats.
