Tagged for Being Interesting

I really always hated playing tag. Freeze tag was alright and there was this fun game of cat and mouse that I enjoyed, but regular tag was not really my thing. It was all about running and I like games based more on skill. But, meme tag is a fun game I will play.

Ley from Cilantro & Lime shared a few facts about herself that may be rather unknown to the rest of the blogosphere. In turn she tagged others to share of which I was one. The reason, as Ley says, “Because you’re just so interesting!” That was the funny part to me!

1. Link to your tagger and post these rules.
2. Share 5 facts about yourself
3. Tag 5 people at the end of your post and list their names (linking to them).
4. Let them know they’ve been tagged by leaving a comment at their Blogs.

Everyone seems to be sharing childhood photos, so I am too! These facts are in no particular order and have no rhyme or reason to them. They are just random facts. Enjoy!

1. I started ballet when I was 8 years old. The first class I took was during Halloween week and we were all allowed to choose a flavor of sees suckers before going home. The class was okay but the suckers were great, so I decided to return. I danced for 8 years, was on pointe, and helped to teach little kids. I was never good enough to get a solo and once I was in high school, I desperately wanted to quit. On my last trip to the states, I dug up my toe shoes and have dreams of finding a ballet class here that I could take.

2. I have never really loved my name. During my junior high years, I began using the name Angie. I received notes, letters in the mail addressed to Angie. I even went so far as to ask if I could get my yearbook printed with the name Angie. My mother did not agree and tried to tell me I would regret it later. Here in Peru, I often use the name “Noelia” which is the Spanish version of my middle name. I like it.

3. I have always like to read. Spelling came easy for me. I made it into the school wide spelling bee finals and even to the district wide finals. The words I missed were “separate” and “nickel,” respectively. I will never spell those wrong again!

4. One year, I crossed the border into a country which was officially at war, in order to visit their border town. The guards were kind on the way in and berated us on the way out. They wanted us to “buy back” our passports which we had given them in exchange for a quick tour. We sat for hours in the office until finally they released us. Our “tour guide” had convinced the officials that we had not taken any compromising film with the video camera so they would not confiscate it. As he led us back to the bridge to cross the border, he asked us what we were going to do for him since he had helped us. We offered him skittles. He was happy.

5. When I exaggerate, I always use some form of the number 16. 16 million, 16 thousand, 16 hundred, or just 16. But when you hear 16 anything, you know I am just making it up!

I rather like the name Gretchen, I’m not sure if my five things will be as interesting as yours but I’ll give it a go!

  • michelle

I’ve always thought Gretchen was a pretty name, as well.

I still remember the word that bumped me from my elementary school spelling bee, too. :)

    Eraser… e-r-a-s-e-r… eraser.

not at all, I rather enjoyed reflecting!

We don’t have such a thing as spelling bee’s in the uk, my spelling is ok, but I tend to rush online and press ok without checking!
I absolutely LOVE reading, I have just finished the most fab book called “The Book Thief” by Marcus Zusac. I also just started a private blog as a book club sort of thing, me and a coupla people just write about our books then swap if possible. (well that’s the idea it just started)

My favourite childhood author was Enid Blyton, her books are so full of Magic, “The Magic Faraway Tree” series are my fave! Do you have a favourite childhood author?

Hi Gretchen! Thank you for the lovely comment you left on my blog today. I’m glad you like it. I just started and I am so passionate about it. You have a nice blog yourself and I will be adding you to my favorites for sure. How is life in Peru? Thanks again! I will be coming back for more!

I’m glad you posted things!! See- you ARE interesting! lol.

Hah- I always use a variation of 5when exaggerating. And I used to try to change my name, too! I hate how common and boring Ashley is. I tried Jackie and Jenne, but no one really called me any of those. Now I go by Ley, and it works fine enough, I guess. lol.

Oh and that first picture of you is hilarious. What in the world were you doing??

  • Gretchen Noelle

Bev – Thanks! and thanks for playing along!

Michelle – Thanks! Isn’t it funny how some things you will just *never* forget!

Aran – You are welcome! I love Peru, it is home now!

Paz – Thanks! I like the name rather well!

Ley – Hey now, my sisters name is Ashley so i have a soft spot for that name. But I can understand wanting to make it different and I love the shortening to Ley. Perfect! No clue what I was doing there. :)
